Happiness on a Friday Night

My understanding of happiness is definitely not the same as other people's.

I love the idea of playing tennis on Saturdays, going to parties on a Friday night and playing board games on a lazy afternoon. I can see why other people enjoy these activities. I wish I enjoy them... But, I don't.

I enjoy solitary, quiet things. I love writing, taking photos, and be absorbed in a good book. But with the path I have chosen, enjoying these things is almost an impossibility. Medicine entails delaying gratifications and thus, sacrifice.

But, thank God for Friday nights. At least, for even just an hour or two...I can do what makes me happy. :)

Taking a break from Guyton's Medical Physiology and Snell's Clinical Anatomy and giving John Green a try. I like the story, though I'm trying not to get too attached to the characters because of inevitable ending.

“But it is the nature of stars to cross, and never was Shakespeare more wrong than when he has Cassius note, ‘The fault, dear Brutus, is not in our stars. But in ourselves.”

Summer wrap-up and photographs

Before my "official" summer vacay started, I promised myself to make this vacay a little bit different. With this, I came up with my "summer-to-do" list: explore a new summer destination, try out something new and develop new skills/talent. And, I can say that I am happy with how it turned out. :)

I finished 6 books: The hunger games trilogy, The winner takes it all by Paulo Coelho, The happiness project by Gretchen Rubin and finally, after ages, Message in a Bottle by Nicholas Sparks. =p

I was able to learn more about myself as I tried something new.  May it being more adventurous with my nails as I tried bolder shades like neons, red and purple. Since I would usually stick to pale pink shades so I don't attract too much attention. :)

If I have one realization this summer, it is that, we don't have to go very far for us to have a rocking summer vacation, as our country has many different spots to discover - Cebu, Bohol, Boracay, and our newly explored summer vacay destination - Guimaras. :)

I also love how my summer vacay turned out to be a perfect time for honing talents and discovering the new sides of myself. Since there were no school works waiting to be done, topics to study, I had more time doing and designing my spiritual journal (where I write all my favorite bible verses), writing on my blog. and, of course, taking photographs. :) you can visit my photo blog project here :)

Now that summer is ending and med school is about to start, I can say that I have something even more special than the bottle of white sand I have collected. :)

Sweets for my Sweet Tooth

I'm a big fan of chocolates, ice cream, and anything sweet! Yes, I am BIG dessert lover!:)
It has already been a habit for me to always make sure that there is always a room for a yummy, sweet treat after a meal.
Surprisingly, despite of this lifestyle...my capillary blood glucose only falls between 70-75mg/dL.
And, it has been a torture on my part when my attending physician has to prescribed me with a no-milk, low fat diet on which I have to strictly adhere for 4 weeks!
I don't know how I survived it. But one thing was for sure...It wasn't easy to resist temptations!=p

Here are some of my favorite desserts which could be found all over Iloilo City. :)

Looking for ways on how to combat the scourging summer heat?
Have a scoop of ice cream at Kystal Ice. :)
Their cheese sticks dipped in sour cream onion sauce is also an ultimate gastronomic treat!
One of my favorite smoothies (next to Starbucks' Caramel)-- Blue Jay's Toblerone White.
Brownies Unlimited
When stress takes it toll...I would usually drown myself with foods, specifically with anything sweets.:)
Studies have shown that chocolates help boost serotonin levels - which influences our mood.

So, that's it guys. Some of my favorite treats for my sweet tooth.
Now, I'm starting to drooooool!!!

Books I Fancy: My Current Wishlist

As what most of you might already know, I am a bookworm. The type who would choose to spend a sunny day sitting on the couch and read a book or, spend hours in the bookstore just reading few pages and synopsis of different books.

I was in grade school when I started to appreciate books. But it was just more like flipping-through-the-pages type of reading.  I was already in high school when I discovered the goodness in reading - that it can actually make me learn new things and even bring me to places I never knew existed.  Usually, I would read chick lit like, The Shopaholic Series and The Princess Diaries (well, not to mention the famous Twilight saga..haha).

But, now I am trying to read books with different genre. I think, my taste in books or, literature in general is improving; though I still have a soft spot for chick lit.

Here are some books which I have been fantasizing for days now...

1. Paulo Coelho Book Collection
Because I've always been a Paulo Coelho fan. Although I  already have 7 of his books...still.. I WANT THE COMPLETE SET!!!:D
(P.S I still don't have The Witch of Portobello, The Fifth Mountain and The Pilgrimage... - just in case you care. =p )

2. How to Turn Thoughts Into Things
Because Bo Sanchez is truly an inspiration. :)

3. Steve Jobs

of course...:) and,
4. The Art of Iphoneography
For the shutterbug in me.

5. C.S Lewis' Signature Classics
Because I failed to appreciate C.S Lewis' prowess as a kid.

6.  Bob Ong's books

Because I've always been a fan of ghost writers.

7. P.S I love you
" Finding someone you love and who loves you back is a wonderful, wonderful feeling.  But finding a true soul mate is an even better feeling.  A soul mate is someone who understands you like no other, loves you like no other, will be there for you forever, no matter what.  They say that nothing lasts forever, but I am a firm believer in the fact that for some, love lives even after we're gone." --- that's why. :)

8. Sarah Dessen's book set
Because I'm starting to love Sarah Dessen + I also love the illustration on the cover. =p

9.  When God waits
Because I sometimes get so impatient that I fail to appreciate the things that  I presently have.

10. Pink Bible
I've been finding a pink bible for quite a long time already...but I couldn't find one. :(

I will save for theeeese! Unless, someone will be generous enough and give these to me as a birthday present.
:)
